Jonathan Houlding is a BAFTA-winning Production Designer, Artist and Creative Director specialising in world building for film, television, immersive storytelling and artists installation.

Working from first concept to final frame, he creates complete narrative environments ~ worlds with their own history, psychology, atmosphere and visual language. Whether designing a contemporary drama, historical epic, speculative future or entirely imagined reality, his focus is always the same: building environments that actively shape story, character and emotion.

Originally trained in traditional drawing, painting, printmaking and spatial design, Houlding combines classical craft with cutting-edge digital workflows, integrating physical production, VFX, virtual production and emerging technologies into a unified creative process. His work sits at the intersection of architecture, art, cinema and innovation.

Over a career spanning more than two decades, he has collaborated with some of the world's most celebrated filmmakers including Edward Berger, Sir Ridley Scott, Steven Spielberg, Yorgos Lanthimos, Kenneth Branagh and Neil Jordan. His Production Design credits include The Riders, Ballad of a Small Player, Save the Cinema, and as an Art Director highlights include ~ Poor Things, The Martian, Exodus: Gods and Kings and Band of Brothers.

His work has been recognised with BAFTA and Art Directors Guild awards, alongside numerous international honours for commercials design. As an artist, he has exhibited internationally, with works held in the permanent collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum, Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró, the British Council and other major institutions.

Whether creating a single room, a city, a landscape or an entire cinematic universe, Houlding approaches every project as an act of world building ~ constructing places that audiences don't simply observe, but believe in.
