Jonathan Houlding is a London-based BAFTA-winning Production Designer working across film and television. A graduate of the Royal College of Art, his approach to design draws on an extensive knowledge of architecture, art and visual culture, with a particular interest in the relationship between space, character and narrative.

Houlding began his career in film in 1996 and has worked across production design and art direction for three decades. His Production Design credits include The Riders, Ballad of a Small Player and Save the Cinema. As an Art Director, his credits include Poor Things, The Martian, Exodus: Gods and Kings and Band of Brothers.

He has worked with filmmakers including Edward Berger, Sir Ridley Scott, Steven Spielberg, Yorgos Lanthimos, Kenneth Branagh and Neil Jordan, across productions ranging from contemporary drama and period film to science fiction and highly constructed cinematic worlds.

From 2003 to 2010, Houlding pursued an independent practice in the visual arts, exhibiting internationally, curating and teaching fine art and film at leading universities, before returning to film.

His work has been recognised by BAFTA and the Art Directors Guild, including ADG Awards for his work as an Art Director on Poor Things and The Martian. Poor Things also received the Academy Award for Production Design, while his work in commercials has received numerous international design honours.

Alongside his work in film, Houlding continues an independent art practice. His work has been exhibited internationally and is held in permanent collections including the Victoria and Albert Museum, Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró and the British Council.
