Poor Things is an Academy Award-winning fantasy drama directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, based on the novel by Alasdair Gray. Set within a richly imagined Victorian-inspired world, the film follows Bella Baxter, a young woman brought back to life by the unconventional scientist Dr Godwin Baxter. Possessing an insatiable curiosity and an unfiltered view of society, Bella embarks on an extraordinary journey of self-discovery that takes her across continents and through a series of increasingly transformative experiences.
Starring Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe and Ramy Youssef, Poor Things combines dark humour, romance and surreal fantasy with striking visual invention. Celebrated for its bold storytelling, distinctive aesthetic and imaginative world-building, the film is a unique exploration of freedom, identity and human experience.
